FASHION - BIG NAMES JOIN EUROPEAN TEXTILE INITIATIVE

A raft of major names are taking part in a new textile recycling drive with the launch of the Sorting for Circularity Project that, as its name suggests, aims to improve textile sorting so more used textiles can be recycled rather than discarded. Those brands and retailers taking part in the Fashion for Good-driven project include Bestseller, Adidas and Zalando as brand partners, as well as Inditex as an external partner. Fashion for Good partners Arvind, Birla Cellulose, Levi Strauss & Co, Otto and PVH are also part of the wider working group.Read more...





AS MUCH AS $365 BILLION WIPED OFF CRYPTOCURRENCY MARKET AFTER TESLA STOPS CAR PURCHASES WITH BITCOIN

Hundreds of billions of dollars were wiped off the entire cryptocurrency market after Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the electric vehicle maker would suspend car purchases using bitcoin.At around 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday when Musk made the announcement, the value of the whole cryptocurrency market stood at around $2.43 trillion, according to data from Coinmarketcap.com. FISU CONFIRMS NEW DATES FOR CHENGDU 2021 SUMMER WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has announced the new dates for the Summer World University Games following the postponement of the event to 2022. Chengdu is set to stage the multi-sport event from June 26 to July 7, the fourth different dates the Games have been given.The Games had been due to take place from August 8 to 19, before being moved to August 16 to 27. The postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games forced another alternation and the dates shifted to August 18 and 29.  Read more...

Financial package to help progression of elite women’s soccer and augment community engagement. The Australian government announced it will provide a grant of AUS$12 million (US$9.36 million) over two years, to support the progression of elite women’s soccer in Australia. The financial package will allow Football Australia (FA) to support high-performance objectives for all women's national teams. That includes additional international matches for the Matildas in preparation for the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup, bolstering high-performance resources, as well as funding international tours and domestic camps for existing national youth teams.Read more...

Netflix Inc (NFLX.O) is looking to hire an executive to oversee its expansion into videogames, a person familiar with the matter said, a sign that it is ramping up efforts to grow beyond its traditional business as streaming competition intensifies.The move comes at a time when the video gaming industry has benefited from a surge in demand from gamers staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.Netflix has experimented with interactive programming in the past with movies such as "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch" and "You vs. Wild" that enabled viewers to decide the characters' moves. AMAZON BUYS MGM FOR $8.45 BILLION

Amazon has reached a deal to acquire the film and TV company MGM for $8.45 billion, the companies announced today. It’s a significant acquisition for the e-commerce giant, and it means it will own a library of content that’s reported to consist of around 4,000 films and 17,000 hours of TV. The acquisition is likely to help Amazon attract even more big-spending Prime subscribers as its Prime Video service competes with the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus. Read more...
